ReMediate opening this Sunday, 2-4 PM!

The forecast looks good and everything should be ready to begin installing the quilt this Sunday. Bring a hat & water bottle as there is no shade at the site. Also bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit & sew.

The FREE SHUTTLE BUS will leave Guelph City Hall at 1:40 sharp to go to the Eastview Landfill. If you plan to drive, please note that the parking lot is off Watson Rd. near Speedvale, not on Eastview Rd. Here's a map that will help you find us.

If you can't make it for the opening, you can participate in the installation over the next two weeks. I will be sewing Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday, 10 AM - 3 PM, weather permitting, until June 8. Please let me know if you are coming one of these dates so I know to expect you. The closing event will be June 8, 2-4 PM.

Daily sewing - update

Due to wet weather, there have been delays getting the soil to the landfill site, so the daily sewing will begin this Sunday, May 25th. I will be onsite Wednesday to Friday this week preparing the ground and, hopefully, spreading soil once it is delivered. The opening on Sunday, May 25th, will proceed as scheduled.

Resilience 2014 workshop - Thursday March 27

Please join me and 5 other storytellers from different mediums at Silence (46 Essex) for "Storytelling & Cultural Narratives." We'll be talking about how we can use stories to challenge dominant cultural narratives. The event is free and starts at 7 PM. Please visit the Facebook page for details.

This workshop is an Inner Transition event as part of Guelph's 2014 Resilience Festival. The full list of workshops is at guelphresiliencefestival.ca.

Materials please!

ReMediate requires the following materials:

A kiddie pool to be filled with paper pulp. It must be over 3X3 feet; square shaped with a lid would be ideal.

Paper to pulp and use in the quilt. Shredded or not. can shred in presence of person donating if they wish to ensure confidentiality. Loose leaf 8.5x11 printer paper- white or colours, separated if possible. No cardboard or newspaper please. Construction and coloured tissue paper okay too.

Cotton or wool embroidery thread. Any colour. No polyester please (doesn't biodegrade as quickly).

Curved quilting or tapestry needles.

1/2 inch plywood to make drying racks for the paper quilt squares. Offcuts at least 36 inches long will work.

One last request:
Indoor space for paper making in adverse weather conditions. An unused corner of a basement or garage in Eden Mills / Guelph would be wonderful.

Please contact me if you are able to donate any of these. Thanks for supporting ReMediate!
